Tecno Design Centre for Tecno, lacquered black wood and aluminum base, conference table 335a, Italy, 1975-1978.
Large oversized conference table with a black top. The table is composed of two black pieces connected via steel inserts and mounted on dual supports in cast aluminium. The base consists of a repeating two part metal frame. The base creates an open character with the dark black top and aluminum base. This table as designed by the 'Tecno Design Centre'. It was at the time that founder and key designer Osvaldo Borsani was put in charge of the company and the day to day running was left in the hands of the architect Marco Fantoni and other designers. This creation of the 'Centro Progetti Tecno' was a decision made to present future designs of the company as a group creation, not as the result of the creative mind of one single designer.
Tecno was founded in 1953 by Osvaldo and Fulgenzio Borsani. The core thought on which the company was found on the idea that Dwellings function as the fundament on which the quality of life is built. Although Tecno was led by functionalism, aesthetics have never been unimportant. Technique the tool that led to typological innovation. The office world experience an extreme growth in postwar Italy and it was mainly to this world that Tecno dedicated their innovative design and craftsmanship.
