Paolo Buffa Chestnut vanity table with drawers and mirror by Valzania Italy 1938

About the Item

Chestnut wood vanity table with drawers and mirror, Valzania manufacture from the 1938, design by Paolo Buffa for Casa A. in Cunardo (Va), Italy. With its clean and elegant lines, this vanity table embodies the aesthetic pursuit that Paolo Buffa undertook in the late 1930s, successfully bridging Art Deco stylistic elements with more contemporary influences. By minimizing decorative aspects, Buffa's design focuses on the balance of proportions and the natural prominence of the wood used. The tabletop showcases chestnut wood, chosen for its rich arabesque grain that creates a harmonious and pleasing texture. The vanity, or "petineuse," has historically been synonymous with seduction and an indispensable accessory for vanity. Buffa reinterprets this type of furniture in its essence, and the presence of a beautiful mirror, a necessary complement to the table's design, attests to its original vocation. The shield-shaped mirror, with its gently carved frame, perfectly frames the face. Owning an authentic piece by Buffa today means maintaining the connection between the old and the contemporary that is evident throughout the Italian designer's production. Born in 1903, Buffa studied at the Polytechnic University of Milan and collaborated with Gio Ponti and Emilio Lancia before establishing his own design studio. Primarily dedicated to luxury furniture design, he contributed to the furnishing of some of the most beautiful homes in Milan. The presented piece features a Valzania enamel brass label, certifying its origin from a manufacture committed to producing Buffa's original designs. Dimensions: 110 W x 45 D x 140 H cm
