Measurements without the frame: 12" H x 17.5" W x 0.5" D The painting was purchased by the Association for Nordic Art 1885 and won by Station Inspector C. Collvin, Korsnäs. The Fontana del Tritone is a 17th Century fountain in Rome, created by the Baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, born in 1598, in Naples, Kingdom of Naples and passed away in 1680. Gustaf Wilhelm Palm was a Swedish landscape painter and professor, born in 1810, Herrelöv's Farm, near Kristianstad, Sweden and passed away in 1890. After finishing a basic, simple education, a closed friend of the family helped him to study under the Swedish painter Anders Arvid Arvidsson, who also taught him drawing. Later on, Palm attended The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, in Stockholm. His early work were landscapes in the Romantic style, strongly influenced by the Swedish painter Carl Johan Fahlcrantz. During the 1940's, he traveled throughout Germany and lived for two years in Vienna, Austria. In 1840, he arrived in Rome, where he lived in total for seven years.
