Claudius Linossier Dinanderie Charger

About the Item

This French Art Deco charger, by Claudius Linossier, was created using the technique known as dinanderie, which involved decorating hammering out copper vessels to produce subtle but beautiful gradations of color. The charger features concentric circles of decoration including a serpentine border, brass and silver diamonds, volute pattern, a reverse scallop medallion of pebble silver and brass inlay and a small spiral center. The decoration is composed of a radially striated caput mortuum and raw umber ground Product Details: Item #: B-20504 Artist: Claudius Linossier Country: France Circa: 1950 Dimensions: 0.98" high x 15.75" diameter Materials: Copper, silver Provenance: former Claudius Linossier collection; former Mr. & Mrs. Fila collection, testamentary legatees of Linossier, who have since remained in the family. Signed: CL-LINOSSIER Macklowe Gallery Curator's Notes: Claudius Linossier became an apprentice metal worker in his birthplace of Lyon when he was quite young, soon moving to Paris to continue his work as a silversmith, joining Jean Dunand for three months to study his techniques. Linossier did not stay working with silver for very long, however, as it was quite costly at the time, and he instead devoted himself exclusively to dinanderie. His pieces can be found in many museums and private collections.
