19th Century Oil on Canvas Landscape Painting in Gilt Frame Signed J. Wytsman

About the Item

Decorate a study or a den with this beautiful antique landscape painting. Hand painted in Belgium circa 1890, and set in the original carved giltwood frame, this large painting depicts a serene natural landscape with a winding path flanked by gentle hills covered in foliage. The composition showcases two prominent trees in the foreground, likely birches, while distant bushes and a hazy horizon evoke a calm, tranquil atmosphere. The artwork is signed in the lower left corner by the artist, Juliette Wytsman. Wytsman's delicate brushstrokes capture the soft textures of the vegetation and the warm colors of late afternoon light, conveying a peaceful, rural environment. The painting is in excellent condition, and adorns rich colors throughout. Juliette Wytsman (1866–1925) was a Belgian Impressionist painter, celebrated for her landscapes and floral studies. She was born as Juliette Trullemans on 14 July 1866 in Brussels in Belgium. She first studied under Henri Hendrickx at the Bischoffsheim Institute in Brussels. She later worked in the workshop of Jean Capeinick in Ghent, where she specialized in the painting of flowers. At Capeinick's workshop, she met painter Rodolphe Wytsman. He was a founding member of Les XX, and introduced her to this circle of avant-garde artists. They married in 1886 and moved to Linkebeek, near Brussels, in 1892. During World War I, they fled Belgium and lived in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Wytsman died in Brussels on 8 March 1925, at the age of 58. Alongside her husband, she was a central figure in the Belgian "L'Essor" and "Les XX" art circles. Her works often focused on nature, emphasizing light and texture with a softness characteristic of Impressionism. Wytsman remains a prominent figure in Belgian art history. 33.5"W x 25.5"H

19th Century French Oil Painting on Canvas in Gilt Frame Signed E. Galien-Laloue
By Eugene Galien-Laloue
Located in Dallas, TX
This 19th century impressionist painting was crafted in France, circa 1890. Set in a carved giltwood frame, the artwork painted on canvas, illustrates a picturesque, countryside landscape scene with a forest, barn, chickens, ducks, and a pond in the foreground. The oil on canvas is signed on the back in the lower left corner by the artist, Eugene Galien-Laloue (see last picture). The artwork is in excellent condition with rich, realistic colors; it would make a lovely addition to a study, den, or living room. We thank Mr. Noé Willer for confirming the authenticity of this work, which appears in his archives of the artist. Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854-1941) was a French artist of French-Italian parents. He was a popularizer of landscape and street scenes, usually those illustrating autumn or winter settings. His paintings of the early 1900s accurately represent the era in which he lived: a happy, bustling Paris during la Belle Époque. His paintings regularly include horse-drawn carriages, trolley cars and its first omnibuses. Galien-Laloue's works are valued not only for their contribution to 20th century art, but for the actual historical content which they document. His work can be seen at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Louvier, Musée des Beaux-Arts, La Rochelle, Mulhouse, France. A typical Galien Laloue...
