Either in the Bern or Early Hitchcock Series. In the original thick wood frame and stretchers. The largest being offered from my collection-a very good size at- ( Frame: 48"H x 38.25"W - Art: 42"H x 32.5"W ) The early Hitchcock series began to show some of the dramatic shadow effects of this series but did not move to the solid-form objects of the later period.  At the same time, it looks very close to several other Natkin paintings (including one very close example listed in this same category on 1st Dibs) identified as being from the "Bern" series. That one was painted in 1983. This piece shows some transitional elements in that the objects still show some of the crisscross technique that helps give texture to the various objects in the painting. The National Portrait Gallery in London felt the sitter certainly bore a strong resemblance to Prince William of Orange in his teen years. This beautiful portrait is set within a magnificent 17th C original Dutch giltwood frame, very much of the style later adopted & perfected by the master wood carver & sculptor Grinling Gibbons ( 1648 – 1721 ). We have selected images showing Prince William from a very young age to his 20’s. We believe that our portrait has an exceptionally close resemblance to the documented paintings and date wise falls perfectly in line with Prince Williams’ age. Stunning Signed, Lowell Nesbitt Paper Collage and Hand Painting, 1981 Lowell Blair Nesbitt (October 4, 1933 - July 8, 1993) was an American painter, draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor. He served as the official artist for the NASA Apollo 9, and Apollo 13 space missions; in 1976 the United States Navy commissioned him to paint a mural in the administration building on Treasure Island spanning 26 feet x 251 feet, then the largest mural in the United States; and in 1980 the United States Postal Service honored Lowell Nesbitt by issuing four postage stamps depicting his paintings. In 1958 the Baltimore Museum of Art hosted the first solo museum exhibit that Nesbitt was to have in his lengthy career, but it was in 1964 with his debut at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Museum) in Washington, D.C. that Nesbitt received greater recognition. The array of botanical works most likely would not have been created had it had not been for the beckoning of fellow artist Robert Indiana, who, in 1962, after viewing some of Lowell Nesbitt's abstract paintings drawings and prints, suggested that he attempt to make a conversion from the abstraction which Nesbitt’s career had been focused on pre-1962, to the style of realism. About the Artist: André Derain (10 June 1880 – 8 September 1954) was a French artist, painter, sculptor and co-founder of Fauvism with Henri Matisse. Derain and Matisse worked together through the summer of 1905 in the Mediterranean village of Collioure and later that year displayed their highly innovative paintings at the Salon d'Automne. The vivid, unnatural colors led the critic Louis Vauxcelles to derisively dub their works as les Fauves, or "the wild beasts", marking the start of the Fauvist movement. In March 1906, the noted art dealer Ambroise Vollard sent Derain to London to produce a series of paintings with the city as subject. In 30 paintings (29 of which are still extant), Derain presented a portrait of London that was radically different from anything done by previous painters of the city such as Whistler or Monet. With bold colors and compositions, Derain painted multiple pictures of the Thames and Tower Bridge. These London paintings remain among his most popular work. Art critic T. G Rosenthal: "Not since Monet has anyone made London seem so fresh and yet remain quintessentially English. Some of his views of the Thames use the Pointillist technique of multiple dots, although by this time, because the dots have become much larger, it is rather more simply the separation of colours called Divisionism and it is peculiarly effective in conveying the fragmentation of colour in moving water in sunlight."
