Ben Wilson (American, 1913-2001) Untitled Expressionist Painting, Oil on Canvas, Unframed. Painting portrays a nude male figure under attack by three stylized birds; figure is bound at the wrists and knees. The figure's elongated body and anguished expression embody Wilson's early fascination with human suffering, myth, and psychological struggle. Painted with intense brushstrokes and muted earth tones of beige, sienna, and smoky blues, the scene conveys both movement and tension. Wilson was considered a 'painter's painter' and his career spanned social realism, surrealism, and later abstraction. This painting would likely have been created when he was deeply engaged with socio-political themes in the 1940s to early 1950s. Inscribed B Wilson on stretcher verso.
