About the Item

Oil on canvas "Circuito Azul Grande" by Phil Kelly dated 1999. Ready to hang; unframed. 55" x 74.80" Phil Kelly (b. 1950-2010) was an Irish painter who emigrated to Mexico in 1989, where he developed almost all his artistic production. Kelly was one of the few artists interested in painting urban landscapes. Since the spatial complexity of a city is infinite, not many painters venture to represent the languages, codes, and icons of the main arteries of a city as Kelly did. Components such as streets, railways, cars, parks, buildings, and signs became Kelly's main reality in his work, while the natural elements were only decoration. He used a palette of explosive colors filling the work with light contrasts, capturing the mood of the city day and night. He painted several views of the great avenues of Mexico City such as the Paseo de la Reforma, which included the Angel of Independence or the roundabout of La Palma. Works that were painted with a defiant perspective and transfigured objects were exhibited in organized space in order to give the illusion of an almost expressive and modernist mapping.
