A peaceful Dutch river landscape by Willem Johannes Weissenbruch, son of Hague School master H.J. Weissenbruch. This early 20th-century work captures a quiet inland waterway with a traditional drawbridge, a moored barge, and a line of simple farmhouses beneath an expansive clouded sky. The soft tonality and gentle handling of light reflect the influence of the Hague School, with a restrained palette and subtle realism throughout.
The composition is delicately balanced, with careful attention paid to reflection on the water’s surface and the stillness of the scene. Signed ‘Willem Weissenbruch’ at the lower right. Oil on canvas, presented in its original moulded giltwood frame.

Condition:
Very good original condition. Minor craquelure to the paint surface in keeping with age, but the canvas remains stable and colours well preserved. Frame with some rubbing and marks consistent with age.
