1822 Rullmann del, Engelmann lith, Souvenir of Swiss Lithographers Artists Paris

Exceeding rare and important lithograph for the history of Swiss lithography. Engelmann, G. (Godefroy), 1788-1839, lithographer; after Rullmann, Ludwig, 1765-1822, artist Souvenir de Paris, Mai 1822. 35 x 46.5 cm Shows bust portraits of thirteen Swiss artists. Among those possibly depicted are: Peter and Samuel Birmann, Godefroy Engelmann, Franz Hegi, Sigismond Himely, Matthias Gabriel Lory (or his father Gabriel Ludwig Lory), Johann Heinrich Luttringhausen, Maximilien de Meuron, Frederic Wilhelm Moritz, Jean Frederic Ostervald (shown at center), Ludwig Vogel and Joseph Simon Volmar. Source: Musée Neuchatelois, v. 14 (1877), p. 82. Only 2 copies found on Worldcat [Zentralbibliothek Zürich, Switzerland, Library of Congress] The collective portrait was created on a joint journey by the artists portrayed in Paris on the occasion of the publication of the album "Voyage dans l'Oberland Bernois" in 1822. Contemporary note in pencil identifying each artist. Some light age spotting and minor marginal wear. Minor edge wear.
