About the Item

Nice engraving by H. Lallemand after a painting by Angelie Giuseppe, representing a soldier carrying a sabre and, behind him a yong boy playing a drum. Giuseppe Angeli (1712-1798) was an Italian Baroque painter who worked mainly in Venice. In 1741, he joined the brotherhood of painters known as “fraglia”. In 1745 he was director of the studio of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta. Eleven years later, he was appointed professor of nudes at the Academy of Venice, and even became its president in 1772.His finest achievements are two paintings in the church of San Stae (Venice) and also a series of frescoes in the Widmann-Foscari villa (not far from Padua).
