About the Item

Antique bird print of the pied wagtail. This print originates from 'Birds of Britain' by J. Lewis Bonhote. Artists and Engravers: J. Lewis Bonhote was an English ornithologist. Bonhote was born in London and educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge.[1] He was appointed private secretary to the Governor of the Bahamas in 1897, and was sub-director of the Zoological Gardens at Giza from 1913 to 1919. Bonhote was joint secretary (with Ernst Hartert) of the 4th International Ornithological Congress in London in 1905, secretary and treasurer of the Avicultural Society, secretary of the British Ornithologists' Union (1907–1913) and secretary-treasurer of the British Ornithologists' Club (1920–1922). We also offer thousands of antique prints covering fields of interest as diverse as architecture, natural history, religion, ethnology and many more. Antique prints have long been appreciated for both their aesthetic and investment value. They were the product of engraved, etched or lithographed plates. These plates were handmade out of wood or metal, which required an incredible level of skill, patience and craftsmanship. Whether you have a house with Victorian furniture or more contemporary decor an old engraving can enhance your living space.
