Description: This original handcolored copperplate engraving features various wild and domesticated pigs, vividly illustrated to showcase their unique anatomies and behavioral traits. The plate originates from Friedrich Johann Bertuch’s *Bilderbuch für Kinder* (Picture Book for Children), a 12-volume natural history encyclopedia published between 1790 and 1830, renowned for its blend of scientific precision and artistic detail.
The engraving includes:
1. A wild boar (*Sus scrofa*), depicted with coarse fur and sharp tusks (Fig. 1).
2. Piglets, shown nursing, highlighting the family dynamics of domesticated pigs (Fig. 2).
3. A domesticated pig, likely representing an early breed of farm pig (Fig. 3).
4. A collared peccary (*Pecari tajacu*), native to the Americas and notable for its compact body and bristly coat (Fig. 4).
5. A Red River hog (*Potamochoerus porcus*), illustrated with its characteristic reddish coat (Fig. 5).
