About the Item
Plate 37: 'De beide Sicilien. Orde van den Heiligen Januarius - Orde van St. Ferdinand en van verdiensten - Koninglijke Napolitaansche militaire Orde van St. George of Orde der Vereeniging- Orde der beide Sicilien - Orde van Frans de Eerste.' (The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Order of Saint Januarius - Order of St. Ferdinand and merit - Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George - Order of the Two Sicilies - Order of Francis I). The Illustrious Royal Order of Saint Januarius (Italian: L'Insigne Reale Ordine di San Gennaro) is an order of knighthood bestowed by the head of the Royal House of Bourbon of the Two Sicilies. It was the last great dynastic collar order to be constituted as a chivalric fraternity, with a limitation to Roman Catholics, and a direct attachment to the dynasty rather than the state. The Royal Order of the Two-Sicilies (Italian: Ordine reale delle Due Sicilie), was a dynastic order of knighthood of the Kingdom of Naples and the Kingdom of Two Sicilies. The order was established 24 February 1808 by Joseph Bonaparte, who at the time was the King of Naples. The Royal Order of Francis I (properly 'The Royal Order of Francis I of the Two Sicilies' Italian: Reale Ordine di Francesco I) is a dynastic order of chivalry of the House of Bourbon Two Sicilies. It is currently bestowed by Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro.
This print originates from ‘Geschiedkundige beschrijving der oudere en nieuwere, thans bestaande Ridderorden. - Afbeeldingen der Ridderorden’ by G.L. de Rochemont and J. Bischoff. A rare and expensive work on in 1843 existing cavalier / knight / military orders. Published in Amsterdam, 1843.

Plate 36: 'Sardinie en Savoijen. Orde der Aankondiging van Maria of der annuntiatie - Orde van St. Mauritius en Lazarus - Koninglijke Militaire orde van Savoyen.' (Sardinia and Savoy. Order of the Most Holy Annunciation - Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus - Military Order of Savoy). The Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation (Ordine Supremo della Santissima Annunziata) is an order of chivalry, or knighthood, originating in mediaeval Italy. It eventually was the pinnacle of the honours system in the Kingdom of Italy, which ceased to be a national order when the kingdom became a republic in 1946. Today, the order continues as a dynastic order under the jurisdiction of the Head of the House of Savoy, Victor Emmanuel, Prince of Naples, who is the order's hereditary Sovereign and Grand Master. The Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus is an order of chivalry awarded by the House of Savoy, the heads of which were formerly Kings of Italy. The order was formed by a union in Italy of the original Order of St Lazarus...

Plate 28: 'Parma. Orde van Constantijn. Polen. Orde van den Witten Adelaar - Orde van St. Stanislaus - Orde van Militaire Verdiensten.' (Parma. Order of Constantine. Poland. Order of the White Eagle - Order of St. Stanislaus - Military Order of Merit). The Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George is a Roman Catholic order of chivalry. It was fictively established by Constantine the Great, though, in reality, it was founded some time between 1520 and 1545 by two brothers belonging to the Angeli Comneni family. The Order of the White Eagle is Poland's highest decoration awarded to both civilians and the military for their merits. It was officially instituted on November 1, 1705 by Augustus II the Strong. The Order of Saint Stanislaus also spelled Stanislas, was an Order in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Kingdom of Poland between 1765 and 1831 and of the Russian Empire from 1831 to 1917. The Order Wojenny Virtuti Militari (War Order of Virtuti Militari) (Latin for 'For Military Valour') is Poland's highest military decoration...
