Celtic Knotwork and Borders – Antique Print of Interlacing Patterns, c.1869 This striking chromolithograph from Plate XXXVIII of L'Ornement Polychrome offers a meticulously curated collection of Celtic designs, showcasing the intricate interlace and spiraled motifs that define early Insular art. Set against a creamy parchment-like background, the bold palette of red, gold, green, and black brings out the rhythmic elegance of these timeless forms. These patterns are emblematic of the Celtic decorative tradition seen in illuminated manuscripts like the *Book of Kells* or *Lindisfarne Gospels*, as well as in early Christian stone crosses, metalwork, and carvings throughout Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
