About the Item

An elegantly crafted Art Deco classic framed print of a painting titled ‘Enchantment’ by Maxfield Parish. This beautifully illustrated piece depicts a calendar advertisement for an Edison/Mazda calendar. The painting depicts a woman, elegantly dressed in timeless attire, standing outside in a garden in the evening looking towards the light inside of a building. Themes of innocence, nature as a form of utopia, classical architecture, and spiritual elevation through use of dramatic lighting are present. This piece was used to advertise Edison Mazda Light Bulbs. Parish’s work was distinguished by richly saturated colors and the incorporation of neoclassical imagery. Original work was created in the United States circa 1926. This piece includes a unique, uncropped area that other versions of this piece do not normally contain. Markings included: Top: Edison, Mazda. Bottom Enchantment in a banner, and Enchantment by Maxfield Parish. At the bottom right you see a copyright symbol with the words Portal Publications Sausulito Calif. 94265. In very good condition. Gentle wear on frame consistent with age and use on the frame. The print is in its original condition. This beautiful master work would enhance any setting. This piece stands as a pinnacle of a cross between commercial illustration and elevated high concept artwork. This artwork captures the wonderment of the evolution of humanity's relationship to technology of the time period. Measurements: Width: 26" / 50.8 cm Depth: 2" / 5.08 cm Height: 31" / 78.74 cm
