Framed "Hearts" lithograph print by artist Jim Dine

About the Item

A mesmerizing abstract by artist Jim Dine from 1970 that incorporates elements of pop art and abstract expressionism. Offset lithograph on metallic paper. “Hearts'' shows off a pattern of eight hearts in a row in different colors. It brings to mind the work of Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. This piece sits behind glass within a very unique handmade silver leafed frame. The hearts are juxtaposed by loose swaths of gray to add a pop and flare to the colors. Made in the United States. This was created in a series that is an addition of 1,000. Jim Dine’s career spans over six decades and his work includes painting, printmaking, assemblage, and photography amongst other things. He has had over 300 solo exhibitions. In Dine’s own words, hearts would become "a universal symbol that I could put paint onto" and "as good a structure geographically as any I could find in nature. It is a kind of landscape and within that landscape I could grow anything, and I think I did.” In very good condition. This stylish piece of art would make a great feature in any office space or as a conversation starter in a contemporary home. He moved to New York City in 1958, and there he became part of a group of artists who initiated Happenings, an early form of performance art.
