About the Item

Choix de Mosaïques Romaines d’Algérie by Charles Albert Joly – Illustrated Portfolio , 1915 This portfolio, titled *Choix de Mosaïques Romaines d’Algérie* and reproduced by Charles Albert Joly, features ten vibrant color plates illustrating the impressive ancient Roman mosaics of Algeria. Published by Ernest Leroux in Paris, this rare work highlights the artistic legacy of Roman North Africa. While the cover mentions "Premier Fascicule," no subsequent parts were ever issued, making this a standalone and scarce edition. Features: - Plates: Ten high-quality color reproductions of Roman mosaics, such as the stunning "Khamissa" mosaic, showcasing intricate patterns and exceptional artistry. - Condition: Retains the original paper wraps and is housed in the original cloth-backed portfolio with cloth ties (now frayed). The boards display significant handling marks and discoloration. The front wrap has been trimmed at the edges and is detached, as is the rear wrap. Internally, the plates are bright and clean, presented as issued (unbound). This portfolio is an invaluable resource for enthusiasts of Roman art and archaeology, offering a vivid glimpse into the cultural richness of Roman-era Algeria.
