The scene dynamically and expressively portrays a bullfighter on horseback and a bull, executed in Picasso's signature loose and gestural style. The bold, fluid black strokes evoke the energy and tension of the bullring, while the selective use of color (blue, brown, and ochre) enhances the composition. The signature of Luis Miguel Dominguín, a famous bullfighter and close friend of Picasso, appears at the bottom of the artwork, adding a personal and symbolic value to the piece.
The artwork is inspired by the book "Toros y Toreros", a collaboration between Picasso and Dominguín, in which Picasso not only illustrated bullfighting scenes but also expressed the emotional and artistic connection he had with the spectacle.
