About the Item

Romantic Scene in the Garden – “In's Herz Getroffen” by A. Schwarz, c. 1890 Description: This enchanting color lithograph, titled “In's Herz Getroffen” (Struck to the Heart), was created by A. Schwarz in the late 19th century. It captures a quiet, tender moment between a man and a woman in a garden, delicately framed by an arch that softens the composition and focuses attention on the couple. The scene is set at a rustic wooden table, surrounded by lush green foliage and bathed in the warm light of a summer afternoon. The man, dressed in a dark green jacket and a hat, gazes intently at the young woman across from him. In his hand, he holds a small red flower, a symbol of his affection. The woman, seated with elegant poise in a pink dress with puffed sleeves, listens with a gentle expression, her hand resting lightly in his. A. Schwarz was known for his charming genre scenes, and this lithograph beautifully demonstrates his ability to capture the subtle nuances of human connection and romantic sentiment. The detailed rendering of the figures, combined with the naturalistic setting, creates a scene that is both realistic and timelessly poetic. The lithograph’s rich colors and soft lines evoke the peacefulness of the countryside and the quiet joys of courtship. It is an intimate depiction of a moment when words are unspoken but feelings are clear – a classic expression of 19th-century European romanticism. For collectors of antique prints or lovers of romantic art, this piece is a delightful example of the period’s gentle, sentimental style. Its tender subject matter and harmonious composition make it a perfect addition to any collection. Condition Report: This lithograph is in good condition with minimal foxing and light age-toning. The colors are well-preserved, and the overall image retains its charming and romantic character. Tips for framing: A light cream or soft pastel mat will enhance the warm tones of the print. A simple wooden frame in natural or warm brown tones will add a timeless, classic finish that complements the romantic subject.
