About the Item
1081 - These antique wall tapestries were hand-woven in France, circa 1850. Called "Portière", Portiere tapestries are tall, slender wall hangings that hung on either side of the elegant doors of French castles and palaces of centuries past, they are unique in that they are designed to fill tight wall spaces. Very versatile, they could be hung on both sides of a window or a door, in a hallway, or even above a landing or a staircase!
