About the Item

From Tohoku area, Japan. Antique indigo Boro textile with Sashiko stitching , probably used as Kotatsu Futon (Thick blanket for brazier table) estimate from the size & condition. 3 to 4 layers of cotton / linen clothes are patched & quilted together with Sashiko. These antique textile pieces are probably from older Kimono's, including hand-woven, indigo-dyed cotton & linen clothes, some of them can be older than 1900s. Kasuri (Japanese Ikat), Shima (stripes), also Akane-dyed (East Asian madder) cotton too. While this Sashiko stitching is in simple pattern, but finished neatly for this size of textile. We can see full of warm, handmade -ish, "just for using at home" feelings from this Boro blanket / rug, this essence is also one side of Wabi Sabi. this is the result of hard work by ordinary mom or grandma of that time.
