Panel of tapestry of the Manufacture Royale of Aubusson of the end of the 17th century, having for registry the triumph of Alexander the Great when it entered Babylon in November 331 BC. This panel is part of a series of tapestries relating the story of Alexander the Great, inspired by the cartoons of Charles Le Brun (1619-1690), and from the painting "Le triomphe d'Alexandre", by the same artist , Painted in 1665 with the legend: "Thus by Virtue rise the heroes". It can be noted that Charles Le Brun relied on the representations of the characters present on the hangings in the history of Scipio made from the drawings of Jules Romain (1499-1546) around 1532, thus posing as heir to the master Italian. Analysis of the Tapestry Panel: Here one can observe Alexander standing on a chariot dragged by an elephant, advancing to the left where magnificent edifices rise. Warriors on horseback follow him, carrying the standards. On the left, statue of gilded bronze, women and children. In the foreground, a Cavalier pointing at a vase carried on a stretcher by two men. Borders with flowers and fruited fruits with grotesques at the corners. Historical references of the submission of Babylon and Susa: Following the battle of Gaugamèle, Darius III took refuge in Medieval France. Alexander, on his part, received the submission of Babylon, and undertook to respect the institutions of the city. However, since Darius was trying to raise funds to fight against Alexander, in November 331 BC, he decided to head to Susa, a city with an important treasure, estimated at 50,000 talents, a colossal sum for the era. Susa decided not to oppose Alexander and opened his gates to him. Subsequently, some of this money was sent to Antipater, in order to support his struggle against Sparta. Ce panneau fait parti d’une série de tentures relatant l’histoire d’Alexandre le Grand, inspirée des cartons de Charles Le Brun (1619-1690), et d’après le tableau « Le triomphe d’Alexandre », du même artiste, peint en 1665 avec la légende : « Ainsi par la vertu s’élèvent les héros ». On peut remarquer que Charles Le Brun s’est appuyé sur les représentations des personnages présents sur les tentures de l’histoire de Scipion fait d’après les dessins de Jules Romain (1499-1546) vers 1532, se posant ainsi en héritier du maître italien. Analyse du panneau de Tapisserie : Ici on peut observer Alexandre debout sur un char traîné par un éléphant, s'avançant vers la gauche où s'élèvent de somptueux édifices. Des guerriers à cheval le suivent, portant les étendards. A gauche, statue de bronze doré, femmes et enfants. Au premier plan, Cavalier montrant du doigt un vase porté sur un brancard par deux hommes. Bordures à fleurs et fruits enguirlandées avec grotesques aux angles. Références historiques de la soumission de Babylone et Suse : Suite à la bataille de Gaugamèle, Darius III partit se réfugier en Médie. De son côté, Alexandre, reçut la soumission de Babylone et, s’engagea à respecter les institutions de la cité. Cependant, comme Darius tentait de récolter des fonds afin de lutter contre Alexandre, ce dernier décida, en novembre 331 avant Jésus Christ, de se diriger vers Suse, cette ville disposant d’un important trésor, estimé à 50 000 talents, une somme colossale pour l’époque. Suse décida de ne pas s’opposer à Alexandre et lui ouvrit ses portes.
