Antique 19th Century Woven Hair Art Mourning Brooch or Pin Engraved 'Mother'

About the Item

A good late Georgian or Victorian memorial hair art brooch. Comprised of an interlocking double looped knot of woven hair mounted with a central scroll-shaped cartouche engraved with the dedication that reads "Mother" and mounted on a gold-filled pin back. In the Georgian and Victorian eras, woven hair art was used to memorialize a departed loved one or given as a keepsake memorial for a loved one in their absence. This looped knot is reminiscent of a Nautical square knot that binds and holds things together - likely a metaphor for the Mother's strength and the intimate bonds that she creates. Length: ca. 46 mm Items purchased from this dealer must delight you. Purchases may be returned for any reason for a period of 7 days.
