Castellani Etruscan Style 15kt Gold Jabot Brooch
About the Item
Etruscan style gold granulation florets and fine wire work decorate this 15kt yellow gold jabot brooch. The jabot is constructed to be worn only seeing the two discs as the pin is hidden by the wearer’s fabric. The pin goes through the lapel or blouse or jackets top front. The addition of a chain with a spring ring enables the jabot to hang a pendant (not included) or small pocket watch. The jabot measures 2.37” length and each disc is .50” in diameter (6cm length and the discs are 15mm in diameter). The weight of this jabot 4.8 grams. Once the pin is inserted into the catch, it clicks into place. The Castellani and Double C Logo plates are affixed to the back of one disc (the one without the catch).
Castellani’s Jewellery from the 19th Century is in museums:
British Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum to name a few); exhibitions as well as in private collections.
Fortunato Pio Castellani can be called the "Father of Archeological Revival Jewellery". In the mid 1800's in Rome, Castellani had the entree to visit the Ancient Etruscan ruins. He was able to study these Ancient designs as well as other Ancient Mediterranean civilizations’ jewellery and started to create and re-design under his brand.

The pin can be shortened: the chain can be removed and or the spring ring can be removed and chain soldered on the disc.
