Japan 1800's Shogun Period Rectangular Silver Coins 18K Gold Earrings
About the Item
Two authentic rectangular silver coins from 1837-1854, minted in the waning days the last Japanese shogunate, are set in delicate "twist wire" handmade 18K gold bezels and dangle below safety-clasp ear wires. The coins are "Kaei Isshugin" translated as "1 Shu Silver" and were the pocket change of the Samurai warriors. The last shogun was overthrown in 1869, and power was returned to the emperor. After that, modern minting equipment was imported and round modern style coins were minted. These earrings are sent with a lifetime laminated coin certificate of authenticity. Simple and Classic!

Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
