About the Item

This is a delightful example of a 1920s tasseled flapper necklace. Condition Report: Very Good - Some darkening to the silk thread due to age. This is only apparent upon close inspection and does not detract from the appeal of the necklace. The Details... This necklace features round, oval, tear drop and micro red glass beads. The necklace is 47cm and fastens with a bolt ring. Suspended from this are two tasseled lengths of bead which each measure 54cm and 62cm. A Short History... Glass has been a prevalent feature of costume pieces since the invention of jewellery. An easily accessible material that can be formed into any shape and dyed any colour. Glass was heavily used in Art Deco pieces, such as this necklace, because it could be dyed in a vast array of colours to meet the need for affordable jewellery after the Great Depression and First World War.
