This Pinchbeck long guard chain was created in 1825 ca. The snake head was a popular feature of the period representing eternity in love and friendship. The material Pinchbeck was the invention of the London watch- and clockmaker Christopher Pinchbeck ( 1670- 1732) was an inventor of astronomical and and musical clocks. He was famous for his invention of a zinc and copper alloy that resembled gold and did not change it's color.
