The jade carving you see here is no ordinary jade carving. It is a variety of jade known as kosmochlor jade. What, you ask, is kosmochlor jade? Well, it is also known as chromium jadeite. And chromium is the chemical element that gives jadeite its legendary emerald-green coloring. Chromium also gives South American emeralds their legendary emerald green coloring. Chromium jadeite is like jade with an extra helping of green. It's intensely colored jade that is also intensely beautiful.
The jade carving has been certified by Stone Group Labs to be untreated kosmochlor jade from Burma. As the lab certificate explains, "Jadeite, Omphacite and Kosmochlor are distinct yet closely related minerals, commonly intergrown. Western countries refer to all as jade and by their more specific names when identification is possible. In Asia, they may all be collectively referred to as Fei Cui. Kosmochlor may also be referred to as chromium jadeite."

One for you old ravers, this Givenchy 'G' 1970s whistle pendant is a new addition to our re-engineered range of vintage jewellery.
The 1979 'G' Givenchy whistle is a working whistle and a fave piece of mine. In fact, my very first piece of vintage jewellery that inspired Jagged Metal was a mint condition red version of this on the original snake chain which I will keep forever!
This one had been separated from its original chain and had been made into a keyring. So we added a chunky gold plated chain to give it some oomf.

Vintage Signed Crown Trifari Asian Style White Pendant Necklace, 1972 Ad Piece

Goldtone Asian style off-white resin round pendant with goldtone openwork dangle center on a chain with a spring ring clasp. Marked crown "Trifari." Pendant with bale measures: 4 1/8 inches long by 3 3/8 inches wide. Chain doubled measures: 13 3/4 inches long. Condition: Very good some minor wear/speckling to chain only noticeable upon close inspection. A necklace like this was featured in a 1972 Trifari advertisement.
Trifari is an American jewelry company founded in 1925 which sold costume jewelry to the middle to high end market. In 1930, Alfred Philippe, an immigrant from France, joined the company and became its lead designer. Philippe in his previous position in Paris had collaborated with Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, which influenced his designs for Trifari. In the 1930s, Trifari's jewelry was frequently used in Broadway productions. Their designs were also popular in Europe, owned by the Countess of Polignac as well as madame Lanvin's daughter and the director of Lanvin. Trifari also designed two sets of faux-pearl jewelry for Mamie Eisenhower. In 1955, Trifari won a landmark lawsuit protecting its copyrighted designs which were being copied by other costume jewelry companies. The earliest jewelry was less about accessorizing than it was about wearers arming themselves with amulets. While rubies have long been one of the few gemstones that can give diamonds a run for their money, members of some ancient civilizations valued the stones from the get-go, donning ruby pendants as well as other stones with the belief that these adornments would bring protection, healing powers or strength. Today, we still wear our charm bracelets and charm pendants around our necks for good luck.
Later, pendant necklaces, like most fine jewelry, were worn strictly by royalty or the upper class and conferred wealth and prestige. This changed over time, thankfully, as wearing jewelry became more widespread, a democratized means of personal expression.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, pendant necklaces evolved from their status as spiritual amulets, but the jewels still carried deep personal significance. Victorian pendants, in particular, were part of the “mourning jewelry” tradition. Wearers would embed their pendants with locks of hair from a deceased loved one as a way of grieving in the wake of a loss. In the case of cameo jewelry, some pendants were even decorated with miniature hand-carved portraits in a detailed raised relief. Today, portraiture is still a characteristic of many of the hand-carved pendant necklaces offered by Italian jewelry house Scala Gioielli.
