Ancient Greek 3rd Century BC Nike and Man-Headed Bull Coin 22K Gold Pendant

About the Item

A high-grade authentic Ancient Greek silver coin from the colony of Neopolis (now Naples) 275 - 250 BC in Southern Italy has a depiction of the goddess Nike holding a wreath flying over a man-headed bull on one side, and the head of the nymph Parthenope (the local goddess of Neopolis) on the other. The man-headed bull was probably the river-god Acheloos, the father of the sirens, whose cult was wide-spread across the Greek world. He was one of the oldest deities in Greek mythology, representing the power and unpredictability of nature, and was associated with the Acheloos River in western Greece. This beautiful coin is set in a Steven Battelle designed artisanally crafted 22K setting with highly detailed "doubled spirals and jawan" handwork on the bezel along with a 1.8mm VS1 diamond accent on the bail. It is sent with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. It comes in 18”, 20”, and 24” lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant. Fascinating!

Ancient Greek 3rd Century BC Seleucid Elephants Coin 22K Gold Diamonds Pendant
By Steven Battelle
Located in Soquel, CA
A rare and authentic silver "tetradrachm" coin from Seleukos I Nikator 312-281 BC depicts Athena driving a "quadriga" (a chariot) pulled by 4 horned elephants. Seleucus was a Macedonian Greek general who was one of the successors of Alexander the Great. In the power struggles that followed Alexander's death, he became ruler of Asia Minor, Syria, Mesopotamia, and the Iranian Plateau, eventually assuming the title of basileus (king). The state he established on these territories, the Seleucid Empire, was one of the major powers of the Hellenistic world, until being overcome by the Roman Republic and Parthian Empire in the late second and early first centuries BC. In 306 BC Seleucus attempted to invade India, and in the subsequent settlement with the Mauryan Emperor Chandragupta, he obtained 500 war elephants which were later used in campaigns in the west. Although no "quadrigas" were ever actually pulled by 4 elephants, Seleukos chose to use this image on his coinage. The opposite side of the coin features Zeus, king of the gods. This is an extremely rare coin not usually seen in jewelry. It is set in a signature handmade Steven Battelle 22K gold hammered...
