Ancient Roman 1st Century BC Victoria Coin 22K Gold Pendant
About the Item
A beautiful image of the Roman goddess Victoria (Victory) is depicted on this authentic ancient "denarius" coin from 89 BC. set in a complementary high karat gold handmade granulated setting designed by Steven Battelle. This coin depicts Victoria seated, holding a patera with outstretched arms. Victoria in ancient Roman religion was worshipped as the personified goddess of victory. The patera was a round shallow dish or bowl used by the Romans in religious ceremonies, offering libations of wine to the gods. The opposite side of the coin is a female bust with the word "ROMA" beside. This pendant comes with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The 18 inch triple spiga 18K woven chain shown is included in this listing.

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
