About the Item

This elegant pendant features an authentic Athenian Owl silver tetradrachm, struck in Classical Athens circa 440–404 BCE, and custom-set in a hand-fabricated 18k gold bezel. This includes a wonderful 14k gold chain. Regarded as one of the most iconic coin designs of the ancient world, the obverse depicts the helmeted head of Athena, goddess of wisdom and war. The reverse features the owl of Athena standing right, head facing, with an olive sprig and crescent — a timeless symbol of knowledge, power, and protection. This coin was acquired from a leading European numismatic dealer and carefully set to preserve the coin’s form and relief. The gold bezel was shaped by hand, then hammered and polished to frame the coin securely without adhesive or pressure to its surface. The bail was custom forged to match the pendant’s proportions, allowing for compatibility with a range of fine chains. No two coins are alike, and the naturally irregular shape of this ancient silver adds to its authenticity and tactile character. Provenance: Origin: Athens, Greece Period: Circa 440–404 BCE Material: Silver tetradrachm Setting: Solid 18k yellow gold (handmade in the U.S.) Source: European numismatic dealer (details available upon request) Coin authenticity certificate included Additional Information: This pendant blends ancient art and contemporary craftsmanship. It is wearable history — a 2,400-year-old artifact reimagined as a timeless heirloom. Ideal for collectors, classicists, or those seeking a powerful symbolic talisman. Comes with a certificate of authenticity and a presentation pouch. Chain available upon request.

Owl & Athena 450 BC Athens Hand Set in Sterling Silver
Located in Chicago, IL
Read my blog post about Athens' owl coin: https://www. peregrinependants. com/blog/athens-owl-coin To appreciate its size, the relief of the coin and the shape of the bail, see the picture showing the coin next to a US quarter. The coin was first set in a gold bezel, which was then hammered over the edge of both sides. This was then sanded and polished. This pendant is built to last. Currently have three Athenian owls of varying quality, set in 18k gold. This is an excellent one. Note how thick these coins are. The pendant weighs about 20 grams (0.7 oz) Coin was purchased from Britain's premier ancient coin dealer. Indian, Post-Kushan (Jammu and Kashmir) - Kidarite Successors, Vinayaditya Obverse: abstract Kushan style king standing left; ka in Brahmi to left; to right, jaya and monogram of Kidara in Brahmi Reverse: Abstract Ardoxsho seated facing, holding filleted investiture garland and cornucopia; ditya in Brahmi to left, śri vinaya in Brahmi down right Struck 5th-7th century The Kidarites, or Kidara Huns, were a dynasty that ruled Bactria and adjoining parts of Central Asia and South Asia in the 4th and 5th centuries. The Kidarites belonged to a complex of peoples known collectively in India as the Huna, and in Europe as the Chionites (from the Iranian names Xwn/Xyon), and may even be considered as identical to the Chionites. The 5th century Byzantine historian Priscus called them Kidarite Huns, or "Huns who are Kidarites". The Huna/Xionite tribes are often linked, albeit controversially, to the Huns who invaded Eastern Europe during a similar period. They are entirely different from the Hephthalites, who replaced them about a century later. Ardoksho (Bactrian script Αρδοχϸο), also Romanised as Ardochsho, Ardokhsho and Ardoxsho, the Iranic goddess of wealth was a female deity of the Kushan Empire...
