Tiny Gold Celestial Charm Necklace - Art Nouveau 'Lady in the Moon' with Diamond

About the Item

Dainty and elegant, a lovely petite Art Nouveau period "Lady in the Moon" has been converted from an antique stickpin (circa 1910) to a sweet necklace charm. Between the two points of the crescent moon, I've added a small, fiery old mine cut diamond in a custom bezel to serve as a "star." She comes suspended on a vintage 14K gold snake chain, making her easy to wear and layer with other necklaces. A classically designed Art Nouveau woman's face with flowing hair adorns the waxing crescent moon. Directly opposite her serene face is the small, very fiery & chunky antique diamond with open culet I have added, weighing approximately .14 carats. It has very good, near-colorless color and eye-clean clarity. (the clarity under magnification is also very good, I see only one small very hidden inclusion under 14x magnification, and no damages) Measuring a little under 1/2 an inch in diameter (approx. 12.2 mm), the total drop length including the jump ring is just under 3/4 of an inch or approx. 16mm) On my scale, the finished weight of the charm on its own is .60 grams, so it's quite light. The charm is made of solid 10K gold and came to me with part of its high karat bloomed surface remaining. I decided to add back a higher karat surface by plating over the original 10K gold, though it has a polished shiny surface now, rather than the brushed surface the blooming gave it originally. Depending how it is worn and what kind of chemicals it is exposed to, you should expect to have to re-plate it occasionally over the years if you want to keep the surface as it looks now. (it's an easy and inexpensive process to have your local jeweler do this) On the reverse one can see where the original pin stem joined the crescent moon. She will arrive suspended from a slinky, sinuous vintage 14K gold snake style chain, measuring approx. 18 inches long. Closing with a lobster style clasp, the chain is marked "585" and "14K", as well as for being made in Italy. The chain remains in very good condition and matches the hue of the charm beautifully. Together the charm and chain weigh 3.28 grams on my scale. It's far more common to see "man in the moon" themed jewelry - so, I am always delighted to be able to offer a "Lady in the Moon" piece, particularly one from the Art Nouveau period.
