Victorian Enamel Orb Locket Depicting the Earth (c. 1850–1870)
An exquisite artifact of mid-19th century design, this rare Victorian locket (circa 1850–1870) takes the form of a copper orb, intricately adorned with white and pink enamel that maps out a stylized representation of the earth. Romantic and symbolic, the globe-inspired design reflects the era's fascination with discovery, exploration, and the interconnectedness of the world.
The orb twists open into two hemispheres, revealing a hidden compartment within—ideal for holding a personal keepsake, miniature portrait, or token of sentiment.
The locket measures approximately 1.2 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom and 0.8 inches wide, with a solid feel at 6.23 grams. It is offered in very good antique condition, with expected minor enamel wear and light chipping consistent with age and historical use.
