Antique Etruscan Revival Ernesto Pierret Pendant, c. 1860
Located in Aspen, CO
Antique pendant in the style of Etruscan Revival by Ernesto Pierret. This piece displays fine bead work as only a master could achieve. Ernesto Pierret, A Frenchman working in Italy, was a contemporary of Castellani and one of the finest jewelry artists of Rome at this time. He, therefore, was a leading 19th century jeweler specializing in fine archeological and Etruscan Revival jewelry - which was inspired by the discovery of the 700-300 BC tombs of the Etruscan people. Ernesto Pierret jewelry can today be seen in museum collections. This large etruscan revival pendant is a fine example of such pieces and we have not encountered another to rival this example of fine gold work. The center stone is a hand carved carnelian scarab. This piece measures 2.1 inches long and 1.5 inches at its width. It is 18K and in very fine condition. Signed on the verso, this archaeological style pendant is shown on a 19th century gold chain...

Victorian Etruscan Revival Gold Fill Locket
Located in Venice, CA
This Victorian-era Etruscan Revival locket, circa 1870’s-1880’s, opens to reveal the daguerreotype of a young man. Across from it is a blank frame where an additional photo can still be added. The daguerreotype is hand-colored—the man has rosy cheeks and there is a slight blue tinge to the background. The front of the locket features ornate twisted-wire motifs and granulation, typical to the Etruscan Revival period, and there are seed pearls on the front emblem. The original bail can clip onto a larger chain, or a smaller chain can be slid through, so the locket can be styled in multiple ways. Etruscan Revival jewelry has a rich and interesting history. In the early 1800’s there was a large excavation of Etruscan tombs outside of Rome. Within these tombs were pieces of original Etruscan jewelry. The Etruscans were master artisans, they created breathtaking pieces of jewelry through their use of gold wirework and granulation, colored gemstones and glass. The news of the excavation of these tombs, and the treasures contained inside them, spread throughout Europe. Etruscan style jewelry...

Garnet Turquoise Amethyst Locket Pendant Austro-Hungarian Renaissance Revival
Located in New York, NY
This Locket Pendant is a magnificent piece of Austro-Hungarian Garnet, Turquoise and Amethyst jewelry. It is in the Renaissance Revival style and dates to circa 1870. The gems are all set in silver gilt as was the custom of the Austro-Hungarian jewels. In the center is a gorgeous Bohemian Garnet cabochon. The garnet is 9mm by 7mm. Surrounding the garnet are Amethyst, Turquoise and Pearls all set in raised cut down collets. The gems continue onto the bale with a Pearl, Turquoise and Amethyst. The locket opens to reveal places for two photos if desired. I love the way the gems are set in the raised settings on the locket creating a visually stunning and dramatic piece. It is very rare to find Austro-Hungarian lockets...

Italian 1850 Renaissance Revival Pendant Carved In Coral Mount In 14Kt Gold
Located in Miami, FL
An Italian renaissance revival pendant in coral. Magnificent antique pendant, made up with several pieces carved from natural Italian red coral from the Mediterranean sea. This rare piece has been created most probably in Napoles around the 1850. The intricate carvings are mounted from the back with discrete wires crafted in yellow gold of 14 karats and it is fitted with two rings to slide on, in a thin delicate chain. The workmanship and multiple carvings on this piece are magnificent and extremely detailed. They show the portrait of the flora muse adorned with fruits, vines, flowers and leaves. She, in turn, is flanked by two plump cherubs dressed only in ribbons, who represent the Greek-Roman god of wine, Bacchus. They are holding multiple bunches of grapes. Below this composition hang three ornately carved bunches of grapes. Italian Renaissance Revival jewelry...

Victorian Egyptian Revival 14K Gold Reverse Painted Essex Crystal of Sphinx
Located in Venice, CA
This spectacular gold Egyptian revival charm features a sphinx that has been reverse carved, and hand-painted. This is called an Essex crystal, which is a cut cabochon of crystal with a carved design on the back. The technique of creating this floating effect is very precise, and dates back to the 1860's. This pendant is a vintage piece, featuring the Roman numeral of XL (40) onto it, perhaps dating this piece to 1940. Or this number could refer to something else. Regardless of the date of this piece, it is a wonderful item, made with superb craftsmanship and in a very old and special method of intaglio. The cabochon has a lot on dimensionality, measuring 1/2 an inch. The lettering on the piece is in a striking red, which contrasts with the green...

Italy 1850 Roma Papal States Egyptian Revival Micro Mosaic Pendant in 18k Gold
Located in Miami, FL
An Egyptian revival pendant brooch. Fantastic piece, created in Roma Italy during the Papal States period, back in the 1850. This piece is really incredible detailed and was carefully crafted with Egyptian revival patterns, in solid rich yellow gold of 18 karats. It is embellished with several panels decorated with intricate micro mosaics depicting an Egyptian Pharaoh. Accented with patterns of dots and twisted tiny wires, geometrically placed. The micro mosaic panels are Italian also, surely created in Venice during the same period from more than 800 microscopic pieces, carved from natural stones, such as; blue lapis lazuli, red jasper, black onyx, green malachite, black onyx, lava, creme nacre and 24k gold. This is piece of art, composed by elements from several artistic movements, carefully mixed together during the grand tour era, such the Victorian, the Etruscan and the Egyptian revivals. Weight: 21.60 Grams, (13.85 Dwt). Measurements: 42 mm by 60 mm (1.65 x 2.38 Inches). Resultado de imagen para vatican roma gold hallmarks Hallmarks: Stamped with the old Papal States assay marks for the 18kt gold. One time with the Crossed Keys and a Cardinal Capello inside a triangle and one time with the maker's lozenge cartouche with the number 16 for the Roman identification goldsmith. History of the Hallmark: The first statutes of the guild of Roman goldsmiths date back to 1358, in which was stated the rule of the warranty punch. The University of Goldsmiths was founded in 1508 and the statutes approved the following year introduced the use of the master's mark in addition to the previous guarantee mark. In 1738, with the reform of the Statutes of Goldsmiths, the guild acquired the name of "Nobil Collegio degli Orefici ed Argentieri di Roma" (Noble College of Goldsmiths and silversmiths of Rome). The warranty mark used prior to the French invasion was a series of "crossed keys of St. Peter under a liturgical umbrella" enclosed into shields, ovals or other geometric shapes. Note: It was in 1870, the conquest of Rome marked the end of Stato Pontificio...

Gothic Revival Gold Locket

The ideal place for pictures, the interior folds outward to hold five. The visual contrast of the warmer pink gold hinge against the yellow 18k body completes the look. One more secret … the hinge is a hidden Fleur-de-Lis so it is most likely French with the hallmarks lost to time! Excellent condition. Noted: The chain shown is a separate item. Rare Etruscan Revival 18K Gold Locket Necklace attr. Eugene Fontenay, Paris 1870
Located in New York, NY
Large, stunning granulated antique French Etruscan Revival locket with the original, equally spectacular large chain. The oval locket exquisitely decorated with a technique known as granulation, where a tiny gold bead is individually applied to a surface to form a geometric pattern. Done entirely by hand and requiring a master goldsmith, this technique is thought to have originated in Sumer approximately 5000 years ago. The Etruscans mastered the process in the first millennium B.C and closely guarded its secret, becoming celebrated for creating some of the most beautiful and technically advanced gold jewelry ever made. Condition: This piece is in very good condition retaining the original interior crystal, the hinges work very well and are precisely calibrated to stay open in place when desired. The back of the locket shows normal wear with just the slightest waviness. The chain is in excellent condition. Composed as a pendant locket on its original chain, the oval gold links reeded on the interior and applied chain link on the exterior, the oval locket decorated with twisted wirework circles and fine applied granulation patterns, suspended from a long bale with quatrefoil granulation. Hinged on the side, opening to reveal a hinged glass panel for a personal memento. French assay mark and maker's mark partially obscured Confident attribution to Fontenay based on partial hallmark and similar published examples. References: Wartski for gold enamelled locket on chain necklace, sold archives; DSF for gold enamelled locket pendant of similar workmanship and design. Fontenay pieces retaining the original chain which may be worn on its own are rare and desirable. Eugene Fontenay...
