Edwardian 18K Gold Diamond Band Ring, Hallmarked Chester 1910 - 1911

About the Item

Offered is a charming Edwardian period English high karat gold diamond ring with full Chester hallmarks for 1910 - 1911. Made of a lovely, richly hued buttery 18K gold, the band is a signet meets gypsy style ring, with three twinkly rose cut diamonds set within little star like settings. A stylized shell motif adorns each shoulder. The low profile and high karat gold make it really comfortable to wear and the profile makes it easy to stack with other rings, if desired. Small and rustic, the rose cut diamonds offer gentle twinkle rather than the bright fire a brilliant cut would have. The center stone is approximately 1.5 mm in size, with a softly rectangular shape, while the two side stones are each approximately 1 mm in size with a cushiony shape. I love the bright-cut settings with eight rayed stars, as well as the little scroll designs in each corner of the face. (if you would like to have these rustic rose cuts replaced with new rose cuts with more sparkle, or even little brilliants, please message me for a price quote) The diamonds and the settings show a little expected wear. The upper shoulders have such a pretty shell ornament, with the shoulders gently tapering to the back of the band. With the face measuring approximately 18.3 x 7.8 mm, the rise off the finger is approximately 2.25 mm. The shoulders taper from approximately 5.8 mm to approximately 3.45 mm at the back, where it is the narrowest. On my scale, the finished weight is 3.31 grams. Inside are full English hallmarks including purity marks for 18K gold, The Chester assay office mark, the date letter for 1910 - 1911 and partial marks that I assume are a maker's mark but cannot be made out. (perhaps "HC?") There are also some stamped numbers which are presumably the maker's design number. Size 7.5 on my ring mandrel, it fits me a little more generously and may be sized up or down within reason by a good jeweler. I suspect it has been sized in the past near one shoulder. (there is what looks like a slight seam inside) I see just a bit of old discoloration that may be buffed and polished, as could the slight superficial wear. Wonderful as a wedding ring or as a stacking ring.
