About the Item
A beautiful authentic silver quinarius coin from the Roman Republic 89 BC, is set simply with a hammered bezel and hammered graduated shank in this ancient-inspired Steven Battelle ring design. This coin depicts victory seated, holding a patera with outstretched arms. The patera was a round shallow dish or bowl used by the Romans in religious ceremonies, offering libations of wine to the gods.

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
