    One of Bulgari’s most iconic and instantly recognizable designs, the Trombino ring, was first conceived in 1932 by Giorgio Bulgari as an engagement ring for his future wife, Leonilde Gulienetti. That particular ring was entirely set with diamonds. The bombe form of the ring together with the cluster of gemstones was a pioneering design which celebrated the central gemstone. The central gemstone is usually a brightly colored stone including blue sapphire, ruby, emerald and more rarely a diamond or colored diamond. The brightly colored gemstones recall the colorful Roman cupolas that used to dot the green Italian landscape.
