Antique Hand Painted Miniature Portrait Diamond Conversion Ring
About the Item
This special ring is one of a kind, converted from a fine antique hand painted portrait stickpin with diamonds.
Finely crafted of 18K yellow gold and silver, the ring features an original antique hand painted watercolor portrait of a Georgian woman with flowers in her hair and on her gown. Original tiny rose cut diamonds encircle the portrait which is set in its original silver collet setting. The classic Georgian style ring mounting was masterfully custom made to fit with the style and period of the original stick pin.
With an image area of approximately 10.5 mm (a little under 7/16 of an inch), the antique portrait remains in wonderful condition, as does the glazing. I count 32 tiny rose cut diamonds within the halo surround, all of which look to be original to the portrait. (as the diamonds are in closed back settings and the portrait is hand painted, you will want to avoid getting this ring wet as much as possible, as is true of most Georgian and early Victorian period rings with gems)
A beautifully stylized fleur de lis design adorns each shoulder, and the reverse of the portrait itself has been given a classic Georgian "ring butt" that extends to create a beaded outer border around the diamond halo. (so often ring conversions are simply an element soldered flat to a simple wire band - however, this conversion was done with so much thoughtfulness and care, to really honor the original piece of jewelry being featured.)
With a lovely and elegant presence on the hand, the face of the ring measures approximately 16 x 12.9 mm including the upper shoulders; the rise off the finger is approximately 3.9 mm.
The band is simple and substantial, with a mark of "18K" inside. On my scale the finished weight of the ring is 5.65 grams.
Currently a size 7, the ring may be sized up or down within reason by a good jeweler.
