Antique Star Ring with Garnet, Agate & Pearl - Striking Conversion Ring

About the Item

One of a kind and very striking, I found this ring while out antiquing in New England. I love the celestial Star motif and the combination of garnet, agate and pearl. It's definitely an antique conversion ring and remains in very good condition. Crafted of yellow gold testing as 9K, the ring features a pearl-set six rayed star adorning a glowing garnet cabochon, which is then set into an oval shaped banded agate tablet, with an elegant, twisted wire border. The garnet, pearl and agate star component dates to the Victorian period, with the gold band added to it later. With quite a presence on the finger, the face of the ring measures approximately 3/4 of an inch x a little over 9/16 of an inch (19.9 x 15.49 mm). The rise off the finger is a hair over 12mm. The coloring of the banded agate is very pretty - the top layer has a pale blue-grey slightly violet hue, while the bottom later is a carnelian orange. The deep red glow of the garnet really pops against the agate, as does the lustrous pearl set to the center of the star. Measuring approximately 2.3 mm in diameter, the pearl has a creamy champagne color and does show a little wear to its surface under magnification. The garnet is in overall good antique condition, with some expected light wear to its surface - a few small chips and light scratches; the agate shows almost no wear. Simple and slender, the gold band is approximately 2.17 mm wide, with a mark of "9CT" inside. (I've also tested the gold to confirm its purity) On my scale, the finished weight of the ring is 5.11 grams. Currently about a size 7.5, the ring could be sized up or down within reason.
