About the Item

An incredible sterling silver tazza by Jocelyn Burton. With a seashell and sea-life encrusted trumpet form base supporting a curved dish top and secured with a seashell encrusted bolt. Jocelyn Burton was an enormously important English female silver and goldsmith. She executed numerous commissions to the Queen and was given the honor of making the first strike on the first English piece of platinum in the London Assay Office in 1973. She had a storied career and was recognized with awards and accolades for her excellent work for roughly four decades. Simply an amazing piece of silversmithing! Provenance: From the estate of Philip Refson, who owned the Charles de Temple jewelry shop on Jermyn St, London. Refson was a private client (and personal friend) of Burton's and often commissioned pieces directly from her. Date: 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Jocelyn Burton Marks: Struck with hallmarks for JB, sterling, q for 1971 and London Measurements: Height: ca. 7 1/2 in. Diameter: ca. 8 3/4 in. Weight: ca. 2100 g (or approx. 67 troy oz.)
