About the Item

A fine near pair of antique Georgian berry spoons. In sterling silver. One marked for William Fearn of London and 1776; the other marked for Thomas & William Chawmer of London in the 1760s. With repoussé decoration to the bowls, gilding, and etched decoration to the handles. Each of these spoons began life as a table spoon and was re-smithed and converted into berry spoons during the Victorian era. Simply a wonderful pair of traditional English spoons! Date: Late 18th Century Overall Condition: They are in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There are Victorian embellishments to each that include the following: a monogram removal to the handle, scalloping to the bowls, gilding and repousse works to the bowls, and engraved decoration throughout. Otherwise, there is some light rubbing to the gold, some light edge wear, some fine and light surface scratches, and other signs of light wear consistent with age. Maker: One by Thomas & William Chawmer and one by William Fearn Marks: One marked for Sterling / William Fearn / London / 1776, the other marked for Sterling / Thomas & William Chawmer / London / illegible mark from the 1760s Measurements: Length: ca. 9 in.
