About the Item

A fine set of antique English silver plated desert spoons or shovels. By Elkington & Co. Each spoon with a shovel shaped bowl, a figural handle in the shape of an oak branch with acorns and oak leaves, and a finial in the shape of the English Royal Coat of Arms. The coat of arms is flanked by a lion and eagle. The backsides of the lion and eagle are also visible verso. Signed and dated for 1856. Each bowl bears a script monogram. Simply a wonderful ornate set of English flatware! Date: 1854 Overall Condition: They are in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: Each bears a monogram to the bowl. There is some light edge wear and a few tiny spots of persistent tarnish throughout. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Elkington & Co. Marks: Fully hallmarked for Elkington & Co. to the reverse and with an R date mark for 1854. Measurements: Length:ca. 5 3/4 in. Width: ca. 1 1/4 in. Height: ca. 1/2 in.
