Magnificent Art Deco 1925 Sterling Silver Horse Racing Trophy Pimlico Cup
Located in Lauderdale by the Sea, FL
Details: We are proud to offer this magnificent early American solid sterling silver trophy which was expertly crafted by Schofield Co Of Baltimore for the winner of the Pimlico cup in 1925 .
Very few of these trophies have survived since the race was first run in 1919 - The Pimlico Cup was postponed from 1931 through 1943 as a result of cutbacks necessitated by the Great Depression and the entry of the United States into World War II.
Only four Pimlico Cup trophies are known to have survived from this era- of which this is one, incidentally at the time of writing this is the oldest known example.
This trophy has a very majestic stature - standing at over 13 inches tall and 17.50 inches wide, it is the epitome of excellence for the winner of such a prestigious race.
On each side it has two unbridled thoroughbred horse heads that serve as handles, elegant Art Nouveau influenced font lettering (Repousse) and a five layer decorative band at the base.
Applied at the center of the base is there is the Baltimore State Seal also in sterling silver- a homage to the city where the race was held and also incidentally the home the silversmiths who created this piece.
On the opposite side and there is a JC intertwined monogram decorated with stirrups and a riding crop which referred to the the owners of the winning horse, (Jones brothers Oil executives) of Audley Farm Stable .
What is unusual about this piece is the dedication - it was done by hand using the repousse method, not applied which only adds to the high quality workmanship - The dedication reads " Autumn Meeting...

Paul Dachsel Austria Amphora Art Nouveau Vases

We are offering this large and monumental Art Nouveau pair of naturalistic baluster vases by Paul Dachsel dated c. 1893-1905 with extraordinary light green/olive and cream matt glazing with applied detailing of an acorn, oak leaf, and oak branches decorated with acorns. Both vases have brown, partially gilded two-ear handles shaped in the form of naturalistic branches. The long, wide neck joins the body of the vase in a delicate gourd form decorated with linear inspired by the voluptuous, organic Art Nouveau style. Marked on the base, imprinted in clay with the firm's mark encased in an oval: 'AUSTRIA' 'AMPHORA' with a crown, style number: '0580', decorator's mark: '43'; measuring: 35 cm height, width in the central part of the vase approx. 25 cm, length of the neck approx. 12 cm.
