Vir Absurdus - Oil on Paper - Contemporary Painting
By Patrick Faure
Located in New York, NY
This painting is artwork of Patrick Faure, Creator of Faurism. The painting is unframed, oil on paper. About the Artwork: ‘In this subtle instant when man looks back on his life, Sisyphus going back toward his rock, contemplates this chain of actions without links that has become his destiny’ Albert Camus tells us. Vir Absurdus captures this moment, when Sisyphus let the rock roll back down the hill and has the time to look at the Mediterranean shore. We can imagine that it is his love for the sea, for the world of the Mediterranean that he incurs the wrath of the gods. He looks on that shore that is forever forbidden to him and over which hand the clouds of Hades. He is turning into a rock himself. Having been so close to a rock for such a long time, one cannot but imagine that he is becoming rock himself, suggests Camus. The objects lose their meaning. The rock has turned into the five ball of a billiard set...

Agnoiaphobia – The Collective Unconscious - Oil Painting on Canvas
By Patrick Faure
Located in New York, NY
This 2019 painting is from Patrick Faure’s Agnoiaphobia series. The painting is unframed, oil on canvas. About the Artwork: According to the Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung, kollektives Unbewusstes, or collective unconscious, refers to structures of the unconscious mind that are shared among beings of the same species. Study of the Borghese Gladiator Sculpture
By Maria Brooks
Located in London, GB
Maria Brooks Study of the Borghese Gladiator Sculpture 1837-1913 Oil on canvas, stamped 'ESK' verso Image size: 28 3/4 x 23 ¼ inches (73 x 59 cm) Gilt Frame This painting is a study of the Borghese Gladiator, an acclaimed classical sculpture held in Rome. Casts of the statue exist all over the globe, and have been used by artists and students as a study of athletic anatomy. Indeed, the attention to detail that the artist displays in depicting the statue lends the painting an air of photographic realism. Not only has the artist rendered the athletic anatomy accurately, they have also perfectly painted the marble texture of the sculpture, demonstrating their keen artistic talent. The back of the painting is stamped ‘ESK’, indicating that it was painted by an arts student taught under the South Kensington System syllabus. This student is likely Maria Brooks, who studied at the South Kensington Art School and produced, in 1872, a chalk drawing depicting the Borghese Gladiator statue...
