Coffee Huskers
By George Biddle
Located in New York, NY
George Biddle (1885-1973), Coffee Huskers, 1928, lithograph, signed, titled and numbered [also inscribed ’43/Biddle/1928 in the plate]. Reference: Pennigar 77, Trotter 43. From the edition of 100, on Rives cream wove paper, with the Rives watermark. In excellent condition, probably never framed or matted, the full sheet, 13 1/4 x 9 3/4, the sheet 16 x 11 1/2 inches, archival mounting (mylar non-attached hinging between acid free boards glassine cover).
A fine black impression.
Biddle wrote of this lithograph, in 1943: “After scraping the tusche away…I worked back with a pensil (sic) and again with diamond. This all adds to the richness of texture and color.” This work produces a very sophisticated lithographic look, akin in some ways to drypoint work in etching.
After Groton, Harvard College and Harvard Law (and several breakdowns) Biddle concluded that a conventional career in law was not for him; he decided on art, went to Paris, worked with Mary Cassatt and familiarized himself with modernist currents in art (as well as more traditional European art).
After serving in WWI, and the dissolution of his marriage, he became interested in working outside of the European tradition (although his travels continued to include Europe, and he spent a period working under the influence of Jules Pascin in Paris in the mid-‘20’s). Coffee Huskers, like many of the Mexican and Haitian prints...

Arlequin Moustachu a la Guitare, Cubist Lithograph after Pablo Picasso
By Pablo Picasso
Located in Long Island City, NY
Pablo Picasso's rendering of a harlequin playing the guitar may be a common theme throughout his prints, but this work is unique for his careful linework and delicate shading along the face and neck, guitar, and chair in the scene. A lithograph from the Marina Picasso Estate Collection after the Pablo Picasso painting "Arlequin Moustachu a la Guitare". The original painting was completed in 1916. In the 1970's after Picasso's death, Marina Picasso, his granddaughter, authorized the creation of this lithograph by Laurent Marcel Salinas, who worked closely with Picasso during his lifetime. The limited edition print run was completed and published by Marina Picasso in conjunction with Jackie Fine Arts in 1982. The lithograph is printed on French Arches paper, ink-stamped by the Estate verso, and hand-signed and numbered by Marina Picasso on the recto. The embossed seal of the Estate is lower right and the printer's chop, lower left. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

"SS (Masks We Wear)", silkscreen print, double-sided, cotton rag paper, edition
By Andrew Cornell Robinson
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"SS (Masks We Wear)", 2018, is a limited-edition silkscreen print, double-sided by Andrew Cornell Robinson. This print is an edition of 40. Each print is signed, stamped and numbered. The prints measure 17x17".
Note the double-sided printing – surfaces of text, surfaces of image. See the full installation (photo above) as a striking performance in itself with myriad possibilities for color, pattern, language, culture, politics, identity. It's a dynamic body of work that delights in the craft of making and the experience of revealing a tapestry of image and language.
