The attitude of the house is Old World but cool, with a streak of bohemian. It’s very much a weekend country house with a large family and many dinner parties, games, and reading by the fire. The house has the spatial clarity of traditional architecture, but none of the stodginess. The ambition was a balance of plain and flamboyant, shaker simplicity and tattered chic.
