Family Home by Mueblería Standard in Monterrey, MX

I built our home when my wife and I were first married. It is a neoclassical house with ornate carved moldings, columns, and boiserie.

As our family grew, we needed more space and enlarged it with a new Great Room that is connected to the formal living room on one side, and the library (through a “museum” of our collection of miniature chairs) on the other.

The challenge was how to change the design language not using the same strict classical one for this addition (we loved our original home and did not want to change it). The result is an eclectic space that harmonizes perfectly with the original house. A multipurpose area that lets us entertain (250 people) for formal occasions but also where our daughters can watch TV, eat dinner and have friends over.

The design process started salvaging a wood ceiling, a fireplace and two Chinese screens from the seventies that were in my wife’s childhood home before it was torn down.

To be surrounded with elements from her parents’ house gives her comfort and happiness.

The architecture is modern, but with eclectic elements. An antique Chinese painting, a Murano glass sculpture, steel art from Aldo Chaparro (one of the most renowned Latin American artist) are just a few.

The sectional is Belgian mohair with silk pillows and the chandelier is custom.

In the powder room the wallpaper is custom embroidered and painted silk, and the mirror is Murano glass.
