Located in Oklahoma City, OK
In this 16" x 20" ink and pastel drawing on paper, Simon-Gestin depicts what appears to be a young woman isolated within the darkened archway of an architectural setting. The smiling face of a larger female figure looks on from the left margin of the work - a possible 'guardian' or 'protector' of the younger girl. The ground of geometric shapes surrounding the figures are filled with organic shapes and contouring lines in warm tones or dark line. This work is from Simon-Gestin's "No Way Back...

Yellow Love Abstract Oil Painting Miami Woman Modernist Lynne Golob Gelfman
Located in Surfside, FL
Gelfman mirrors nature's movement in this mixed media artwork. The bright white crevices throughout the piece echo the tropical hues of her native Miami while simultaneously creating a treetop effect. Curvaceous planes and texture shift across the wooden surface of the work. This exploration of yellow pays tribute to her Abstract Expressionist generation and serves as the artist's ode to the primary color. LYNNE GOLOB GELFMAN, USA, New York, b. 1944 Lynne Golob Gelfman’s abstract and transcendent artworks are vivid reflections on the kinetic nature of our society and environment. Upon first glancing at the surface of Gelfman’s paintings, the viewer might be struck by the subtle shifts of the paint and brush strokes. Yet, the more a participant engages with the artist’s work, the more dynamic and convoluted they become. The energy found in nature, waves, dunes and clouds sprawl across Gelfman’s canvases, inviting the viewer to explore their inherent kinetism. As part of the baby boomer generation, Lynne Golob Gelfman was born in 1944. Raised in New York, she also spent time living in Bogotá, Colombia as an American Field Service student. In 1961, Gelfman entered the Sarah Lawrence College, graduating in 1966, then continued her education at Columbia, earning an MFA in 1968. In the early ‘70s, Gelfman relocated to Miami with her husband. Between her travels in South America and her Miami residence, she came to value the strong ties she fostered with Latin American culture. Although she has extensive connections to South America, Gelfman is an artist also deeply influenced by the North American Abstractionist context she grew up in. This fusion of cultures and a number of other inspirations are incorporated into her creativity. Apart from being a collector of textile and basketry fragments, her interests also extend into Agnes Martin’s meditative paintings, Morris Louis's furling series, and Bridget Riley’s illusionistic surfaces. Nature and illusion are omnipresent forces in Gelfman’s work. Her acrylic or oil constructs have a textile-like appearance which seek to engage the viewer’s senses. This is apparent in the unconventional tools (such as sanding machines) the artist uses to create texture. In 2006, Gelfman hinted at her artistic process when she titled her shows in New York and at the Fredric Snitzer Gallery resist and react, respectively, highlighting the thrust and drag motions represented in paintings. The allure of Gelfman’s shimmering pieces lies in their ability to simultaneously reflect movement, hue and patterns with a hint of fantasy. Gelfman has shown in more than 40 international solo shows and participated in numerous group exhibitions. Her paintings are held in the permanent collections of museums such as the Pérez Art Museum of Miami; the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami...

Burst of Light - Textured Abstract Painting
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Clara Berta’s acrylic and mixed-media paintings blend texture and color to create harmony, mystery, and depth on the painted surface. Her paintings transform spaces into Zen environments where one can quiet a cluttered mind and enjoy beauty every day. Clara Berta’s paintings explore themes such as the ebb and flow of memory, the significance of personal heritage, the passing of physical time, desire, grief, and love. This artwork measures 40 inches high by 29.5 inches wide. The sides of this abstract original artwork are painted white. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. It may be installed vertically or horizontally. It is signed and titled by the artist on the back. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Clara Berta explores the collision between the old and new; destruction and rebuilding lives. She began painting as an outlet of grief; creating something beautiful as the result of loss. Through her creative practice, she has found healing and further offers to her community safe spaces for troubled teens and women to heal through the meditative process of painting. Her artworks are a language, a push forward in new directions and achievements, while always inspired by history. Berta mixes minimalism with underlying texture and embraces modernism while compiling the odds and ends of her attempts to let her art speak for itself. Her abstract works often include reminders of her travels expressed in unexpected sequences of patterns as well as distortion of perspectives and subconscious spaces. Manipulating the texture with several layers of texture paste and acrylic paint, she will work and re-work her canvases, layering textures to give added dimension, and creating works that intrigue and invite the viewer to explore not only the surface but also the inner language of the painting. A passionate, award-winning artist of Hungarian heritage, Clara Berta's dynamic and highly textural abstract works have been exhibited and collected worldwide. Artist Comments
Artist Tiffany Blaise paints an impressionist view of the Rocky Mountains from a distance. She captures a vibrant sunset shining over mountain peaks. The composition projects ethereal movement and radiant color from the lustrous sky to the whistling blades of grass. Tiffany creates the piece with soft layers of oil paint, ink, and cold wax to achieve a luminous effect.

About the Artist
Tiffany Blaise draws on the natural grandeur of British Columbia to develop her dreamy, expressionist seascapes. Before venturing into her studio in East Vancouver, she spends time walking the beach, taking photos and simply sitting and observing the light around her. Tiffany explains that even with a photo, her goal is to capture the mood, feeling and gesture of the scene. She begins painting by creating a study of her reference photograph to map out the key visual elements and establish the color palette. Color matching is one of her favorite aspects of painting, and she finds that it is highly influenced by her mood and the season. As a young developing artist, Tiffany devotes time to experimenting with different mediums, researching new techniques and studying the work of other artists. “I'm putting in my 10,000 hours!” she says. “A defining moment for me was realizing my love for painting the wilderness while I was at an artist residency in a national park near Sydney [Australia]. Since then I have not been able to stop sourcing my imagery from hikes and adventures.” Tiffany’s work has been featured in the Montreal Art Matters Festival, The Ferry Building...

This elegant work, produced with the highest quality lithography by Frank Stella at Tyler Graphics, was created in a limited quantity solely for VIP collectors at that one day's event as it was a true one-off creation. "Barely Contained" Mixed Media abstract with textural gold, red, and lavender
Located in Laguna Beach, CA
Exhibiting the bold colors and textures that her work is known for, "Barely Contained" is a beautiful abstract painting by Nancy Eckels. Using sculptural texture with beautiful lavenders and beautiful blues, red, lavender, and golds, this painting creates both a peaceful and dynamic mood. Nancy became a full time artist only after ending another creative career.  She moved to California to attend college, and happily worked in television for many years. She was a director on the CBS daytime drama, "The Bold and the Beautiful" when she decided to move on to full time painting. Given her family background, it seemed like the most natural transition she could make.  Nancy was born in Kingston, New York, but moved to Utah at age 7 when her father was transferred for his work. With her family, she spent her summers exploring many of the national parks, and natural wonders of the west where her father loved to fish and photograph. He instilled in her a love and appreciation for the beauty and colors of nature, while her mother taught her many of the lessons of art. Nancy gained quite an art education through "osmosis" while being around talented family members. She has learned much from working with several experimental abstract painters, including Katherine Chang Liu, Carole Barnes...

Adrian Heath, British, mid 20th Century abstract in golds and browns
Located in Petworth, West Sussex
Adrian Heath (British, 1920 - 1992) Golden Brown Mixed media signed ‘Heath 88’ (lower right) 73 x 54 cm. Adrian Heath (1920–1992) was a 20th-century British painter. Heath was born in Burma and attended Bryanston School in Dorset, southern England. In 1938, he studied art under Stanhope Forbes at Newlyn. In 1939 and 1945–47, he attended the Slade School of Art. He served in the RAF as a tail gunner in Lancaster bombers in World War II, but spent almost the entire war as a prisoner of war at Stalag 383. During this period he became friends with and taught fellow POW Terry Frost to paint. In 1949 and 1951, he visited St Ives, Cornwall, where he met Ben Nicholson. In the early 1950s, he was also associated with Victor Pasmore and Anthony Hill. As such he became the main link between the emerging St Ives School and British Constructivism. He was also influenced by D'Arcy Thompson. In 1953 Heath published 'Abstract Painting: its Origins and Meaning' a slim but perceptive volume appraising the development of abstraction by the early moderns. He exhibited at the Musée Carcassonne in 1948, and at the Redfern Gallery...

Mixed media is a type of art that sees artists using a range of materials or more than one medium. Find a range of mixed media paintings and other artworks for your space today on 1stDibs.

Mixed media is distinct from multimedia, which describes art involving electronic media, including video, computers and digital elements. Artists combine painting, drawing, photography and sculpture for mixed media art. Instead of sticking to one form, they aim to break boundaries and create unique pieces. Pop art is one of the vibrant periods for mixed media art, with Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg among its most fabled producers. Rauschenberg, like many mixed media artists, used found objects in his work, from cast-off furniture to newspapers.

Collage is one of the most well-known areas of mixed media. Artists use various types of paper, fabric, photographs and more to create one cohesive work. A type of collage is assemblage, which involves 3D objects.

While artists may use fabric in collage, it can be the very substance of the art itself. Fabric art makes extensive use of texture. Artists may paint or embroider on fabric to create layers of texture and color to evoke a specific feeling. They can also transfer photos onto fabric for innovative ways to display visuals.

Resin-based art has clean, sharp lines and a definitive shape. Resin is a liquid that hardens to a high-gloss surface and is used to seal wood, counters and floors. Resin can also seal artwork, and many artists tint it using pigment powder, ink, spray paint and other vivid materials. If water is added, the resin will turn milky instead of being completely transparent. It’s common for artists working in mixed media to use resin on nontraditional surfaces like glass, wood, metal and stone. This creates a shine that’s perfect to brighten a dull space in the home or office.
