About Artist
Ara Deinde is a visual artist from Abeokuta in Ogun state, Nigeria. Born in Lagos, Ara took an interest in art from a young age, spending his time doodling in his school notebooks. Today, he spends much of his time creating paintings and drawings, while he also writes and makes crafts in his free time.
Ara left his degree program in Agricultural Engineering to pursue a career in the arts. He became an artist-in-residence at KUTA Art Foundation where he rubs minds with creatives, immersing himself in the vibrant cultural scene. He has labored at his craft for years, taking pains in perfecting his unique and surreal technique.
His works have been exhibited in Nigeria and the USA, and he has taken on several notable painting and mural commissions. He has also been featured in several publications at home and abroad, some of which are the Daily Trust, Ake Review for African Art and Literature, and Insight Magazine by Fokus, New York. "Superbloom" is made with acrylic, oil pastel, paper, glitter, thread and clay on canvas and paper mache. This bright and vividly colored sculptural painting is a perfect example of the power of unrestrained creativity.
INSPIRATION BEHIND THE WORK - What began as an experiment in creating rose petals slowly evolved into this deconstructed "Superbloom". At the center of these petals is a seemingly chaotic arrangement of color and texture. Yet, from slow observation, patterns and repetition emerge. What can be easily grouped into a "whole" is actually a balancing act of orchestrated parts - the same as every living organism we observe. There is a mystery to be savored in every act of living - as well as in viewing the traces of life left behind. "Superbloom" was made in love of the former, and leaves behind the latter. We'll never fully understand all the bits of a rose, or all the brushstrokes of a painting, but we're always welcome to bask in the sunshine that is loving without knowing.

Creating imagery with both computer software and the paintbrush, Darren Goins’ paintings utilize both traditional methods of abstraction as well as digital intervention.Goins graduated from UNC Charlotte with a BFA in Photography and Printmaking and a minor in Art History. Goins soon moved to New York, and later Los Angeles where he currently lives and works.
Goins’ style utilizes computer software, like Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Paint, in order to etch the image onto an acrylic panel using a CNC carver. He then paints over the surface, which in turn becomes the backside of the painting as the reverse side of the clear panel faces the viewer. Goins in this manner appears to be tricking the eyes of the viewers with his work; portraying the pieces as a base relief in reverse as if the painting is somehow bubbling up from behind the acrylic panel.
Goins’ pieces also confront the audience with how one can engage with, and utilizes, technology in art. Through his embrace of technical chance and his flexible, manual process, something organic peeks through from, within these images. In Goins’ paintings we can see the ghost of humanity filtered through digital media, fluidly weaved in space. Using his camera phone, digital prints, silver gelatin prints and screen-print drawings from his computer, Microsoft Paint or Photoshop. He has been exhibited internationally, Goins has had solo exhibitions at Hezi Cohen Gallery in Tel Aviv, Israel, Whitcher Projects in Los Angeles, Martin Lawrence Galleries, La Jolla, California and Hap Gallery in Portland, Oregon among others.
